Snow was recorded in Arkansas for the first time ever in the month of May. And while, I've not read about "blanketing bees" any beekeeping books or blogs, it makes me feel better about my hive of new bees. My established hives have honey and pollen stored up from the great weather we had last month, so they will be fine. But, this hive was put together from 50 different hives and delivered to my little apiary less than a week ago. They released the queen on schedule and have some drawn comb. I probably should have shared some honey from my other hive, but who thought we would have temperatures in the 30's in May?!
There were a few bees eating sugar water when the sun popped out this afternoon and the temperature hit 47degrees. I think they will make it!
